APG University Students Join Shimla Walkathon to Fight Drug Abuse

Shimla: Around 150 students from APG Shimla University took to The Ridge on Saturday for an Anti-Chitta Awareness Walkathon, part of a growing movement to make the state drug-free. The event was organized to raise public awareness about the dangers of “Chitta,” a common term for adulterated heroin, and to build support for the “Chitta-Mukt Himachal” campaign.

The university students were joined by senior faculty, including Pro-Chancellor Dr. Ramesh Chauhan, Dean Faculty Dr. Ashwani Sharma, and Dean Students’ Welfare Dr. Neelam Sharma, showing the institution’s strong support for the cause.

The Chief Minister of Himachal Pradesh also addressed the gathering. He delivered a strong message, calling on all citizens to take a pledge to eliminate the drug menace from every village and town. He stressed that the responsibility to build a drug-free Himachal rests on the collective efforts of the public, schools, and the government, stating that safeguarding the youth is a shared duty.

Students participating in the walkathon voiced their support. “This is a very good initiative by the Himachal government,” said Peeyush Sharma, a student at APG. Another student, Janvi, added that “such programs encourage young people and help spread awareness about drug abuse to everyone.”

The walkathon concluded with participants and officials reinforcing their commitment to working together for a healthier, drug-free Himachal Pradesh.
