Solan: The ten day Annual Training Camp of the NCC 1 HP Battalion Solan, is currently being held at Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni. The camp, which commenced on June 28, has brought together around 600 cadets from various schools and colleges across Solan district. During the camp, cadets are being trained in essential areas such as drill, weapon handling and firing. They are also receiving expert sessions on Disaster Management, Fire Safety, and Cyber Crime, delivered by officials from the Solan district administration.

The Vice Chancellor of the university, Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel, who also holds the honorary rank of Colonel in the NCC—interacted with the cadets during his visit. He motivated the young trainees to contribute meaningfully to Viksit Bharat by adopting a healthy lifestyle and following their dreams with passion and dedication. Prof. Chandel emphasized the importance of discipline and urged the cadets to serve as role models in their communities.
Addressing the gathering, Prof. Chandel also stressed the need for a balanced approach to life, urging students to pay attention to their mental well-being and dietary habits amidst academic pressures. He encouraged them to build a harmonious relationship with nature and take pride in India’s rich biodiversity. Speaking against the growing menace of drug abuse, he called upon NCC cadets to lead the charge in spreading awareness and combating the issue.
Commanding Officer Colonel Rajiv Thomas welcomed the Vice Chancellor on behalf of the NCC and appreciated the university’s support in hosting the camp. The camp is designed to instil values of unity, discipline, and leadership among the cadets. Alongside core NCC activities, cadets are being introduced to opportunities in horticulture, social forestry, and agricultural entrepreneurship. Sports and cultural events add a vibrant dimension to the training, fostering camaraderie and holistic personality development.
The camp is being conducted under the supervision of NCC officials and Associate NCC Officers, who are guiding and mentoring the cadets throughout the training program.
