Solan: The School of Media and Communications at Shoolini University hosted an inspiring expert talk by Mrs. Sunaini Guleria Sharma , an eminent ethnomusicologist, singer, and creative director. Her engaging session centred around the importance of being real, original, and empathetic not only in the field of journalism but also in everyday life.
Addressing the students, Mrs. Sharma emphasised that in today’s era of instant fame and sensationalism, journalists must focus on asking meaningful and relevant questions. She encouraged aspiring media professionals to stay true to their values and authenticity. “It’s not how you look but what you bring from within your talent, creativity, and honesty that truly matters,” she said.

Through her melodious singing and real-life anecdotes, she beautifully demonstrated how music acts as a powerful bridge between people, emotions, and generations. Describing culture as “sound made visible,” Mrs. Sharma also shared her rich legacy as a third-generation musician, highlighting the role of art in preserving cultural heritage. She urged students to uphold originality and integrity, even while recreating or drawing inspiration from existing works.
Prof. Saamdu Chetri, Director of the School of Yoga and Spiritual Sciences, also shared his reflections on the occasion. “True creativity flows from authenticity and a mindful connection with one’s inner self. When we are grounded in empathy and self-awareness, our expressions whether in music, media, or any field become powerful and inspiring,”
Prof. Vipin Pubby, Director of the School of Media and Communications, thanked Mrs. Sharma for her thought-provoking interaction with the students. He said, Young media professionals need to remember that originality, empathy, and integrity are the cornerstones of impactful storytelling.
