Himachal Schools Shine in State-Level Disaster Management Plan Competition

Solan: The State Council of Educational Research and Training (SCERT), Solan, has announced the results of the State-Level School Disaster Management plan Competition. The event was organized for primary, secondary, higher, and senior secondary schools across Himachal Pradesh. SCERT received 140 entries in four categories from various District Institutes of Educational Training statewide.

Dr. Ram Gopal Sharma, Coordinator of the Disaster Management Cell at SCERT Solan, shared updates about the School Safety Project. He explained that, in the first phase of the School Disaster Management Plan Competition, entries were invited from schools at all levels—primary, secondary, higher, and senior secondary. Each district’s DIET (District Institute of Education and Training) handled the process of collecting these submissions and evaluted Plans in first phase. After the initial evaluation, DIETs forwarded the top three plans from their districts to SCERT Solan. At SCERT Solan, experts in disaster management thoroughly reviewed these submissions. 

In the Primary School Category, GPS Shilli from Shimla district secured first place. GPCS Thoru Sandoli from Bilaspur district claimed second place, while GPS Ghaniara (Girls) of Kangra district ranked third.

For the Middle School Category, GMS Nehli of Sirmour district took first place. GMS Hardaspura of Chamba district came second, and GMS Chandpur of Una district ranked third.

In the High School Category, GHS Panyali of Hamirpur district achieved first place. GHS Chamat Bharech from Solan district secured second, and GHS Choltu from Kinnaur district came third.

Finally, in the Senior Secondary Category, GSSS Baldowa of Kangra district ranked first. GSSS Barmana from Bilaspur district secured second place, and GSSS Barshaini from Kullu district ranked third.

SCERT Solan has announced cash prizes for the winners. Each school placing first in their category will receive ₹10,000. Those in second place will get ₹7,500, and schools in third place will be awarded ₹5,000.

Prof. Hemant Kumar, Principal of SCERT Solan, emphasized the importance of such competitions. “This initiative is a step towards making disaster management an integral part of education. It’s not just about winning prizes but about saving lives and building resilient communities,” he said..
