Lawrence School, Sanawar Hosts Capacity Building Workshop

Sanawar: The Lawrence School, Sanawar, in collaboration with the Boarding School Association of India (BSAI), organized a three-day Capacity Building Workshop starting today, aimed at enhancing the skills and competencies of housemasters and pastoral caregivers from leading boarding schools across the nation.

The workshop held within the picturesque premises of The Lawrence School, Sanawar witnessed the enthusiastic participation of over fifty teachers representing thirteen prominent schools from various corners of the country. Across five sessions spanning three days, participants delved into topics crucial for effective pastoral care, including team building, leadership, empathy, compassion, and navigating the opportunities and challenges inherent in pastoral care through interactive case studies.

In the inaugural session of the workshop, Himmat Singh Dhillon, the Headmaster of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, delivered a well-received session on “Roles, Responsibilities, and Challenges of Housemasters in the 21st Century,” offering invaluable lessons and practical suggestions to empower participants in addressing contemporary challenges. Reflecting on the evolving landscape of pastoral care, Himmat S. Dhillon remarked, “New challenges have emerged in recent decades, providing educators with opportunities to develop and strengthen their soft skills to effectively fulfill their duty of care.”

Another highlight of the workshop was a two-hour session led by Philip Burret, former Deputy Headmaster of The Doon School, focusing on Team Building and Leadership. Burret’s engaging and interactive approach captivated participants, fostering a joyful learning environment that resonated with all attendees. 

H.P. Singh, a participant from Mayo College, Ajmer, lauded the workshop, stating, “This platform not only provided valuable insights from expert resource persons but also facilitated rich exchanges and sharing of experiences among participants.”

The workshop underscored the commitment of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, and the Boarding School Association of India to fostering excellence in pastoral care, equipping educators with the skills necessary to nurture holistic development in boarding school environments.
