Solan: Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University Nauni alumni continue to excel both nationally and internationally. Among them, Dr. Thaneshwari, a former student, has recently been appointed as the Horticulture Officer at IIM Sirmaur. Previously, she worked as an Assistant Professor at Lovely Professional University. In May 2024, she took the exam for the IIM position and succeeded.
Dr. Thaneshwari was born on January 30, 1990, in Jhungi village, Sundernagar, Mandi district. Her father, Meena Ram, runs a local shop, and her mother, Maya Devi, is a retired government employee. Education was a priority in their household, and all her siblings are well-educated.
She completed her early education at Senior Secondary School Jhungi and later attended Abhilashi School for her higher secondary education. In 2008, she joined Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar University Nauni for a BSc in Horticulture, graduating in 2012. She then pursued an MSc in Floriculture and Landscape Architecture at the same university, completing it in 2014. From 2014 to 2018, she earned her PhD in Floriculture and Landscape Architecture from ICAR-Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, and ICAR-Indian Institute of Horticultural Research, Bengaluru.
Immediately after completing her PhD, Dr. Thaneshwari joined Lovely Professional University as an Assistant Professor in January 2018. She served there until July 2024. Her husband, Kamlesh Kumar, is an IT professional based in Chandigarh. Dr. Thaneshwari attributes her success to her parents’ emphasis on education and the guidance from her teachers at Dr. Parmar University.
