Shimla: The management team of Shimla University (APG) met with Himachal Pradesh Governor Shri Kavinder Gupta at Lok Bhawan on Friday to extend an official invitation for the university’s upcoming environmental campaign.
The Governor was invited to lead the “Ek Ped Maa Ke Naam” tree plantation drive, which is scheduled to take place on the university campus on Monday, August 3, 2026. The initiative aims to promote local environmental conservation and inspire broader public participation in sustainability efforts.

Beyond environmental discussions, the meeting focused heavily on the growing need to keep educational institutions across the state entirely drug-free. The university representatives detailed their ongoing efforts to combat substance abuse through targeted awareness campaigns, preventive measures, and programs designed to help students maintain a healthy, disciplined lifestyle.
Governor Gupta praised the university’s dual focus on the environment and student well-being. He emphasized that protecting young people from substance abuse while instilling a sense of ecological responsibility requires a shared, collective effort from educational institutions, local communities, and the government.
The university management concluded the meeting by reiterating their commitment to supporting state-wide sustainability goals and expanding community outreach programs that benefit both students and the public.
