Shimla University Welcomes New Batch with AAGAZ-2026 Cultural Night

Shimla: The APG Shimla University campus was filled with music and energy as the institution hosted its annual “AAGAZ-2026” Freshers’ Party and Mega Star Night to formally welcome its newest batch of students.

Organized by the Department of Student Welfare under the leadership of Prof. Dr. Neelam Sharma and Prof. Dr. Ashwani Sharma, the day-long event started with the traditional lighting of the lamp and Saraswati Vandana before running well into the late evening.

Himachal Pradesh Tourism Development Corporation Chairman and MLA R.S. Bali attended as the chief guest, receiving a traditional Himachali welcome with a local cap and shawl. Addressing the incoming class, Bali urged young people to maintain discipline, steer clear of drugs, and focus on hard work to build a productive future for both themselves and society.

The evening’s main attraction was a live performance by well-known Himachali folk singer Kuldeep Sharma. His energetic renditions of popular folk tracks, including “Shilpa Shimle Aaliye” and “O Neelma,” had both students and faculty on their feet. Sharma also used the stage to encourage students to embrace a healthy lifestyle while staying rooted in local cultural traditions.

Earlier in the day, students took to the stage for the Solo Ramp Walk Competition, judged by Vanita Chauhan, Dr. Shikha Sharma, and Mala Singh. Participants used the platform to highlight messages around healthy living, public service, and family values. At the end of the contest, Anshool Sharma was named Mr. Fresher, while Yashasvi took home the title of Ms. Fresher.

Senior students from the Hotel Management Department prepared and served a variety of dishes for the newcomers, adding a warm touch of campus hospitality to the celebrations.

University leadership, including Pro-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Ramesh Chauhan, Registrar Prof. Dr. R.L. Sharma, Advisor Engineer Suman Vikrant, and Dean of Academics Prof. Anand Mohan Sharma, attended the celebrations alongside faculty and staff. The day wrapped up with a vote of thanks from Registrar Sharma, marking an energetic start to the new academic year.
