The President of the Republic of Paraguay, Mario Abdo Benitez, awarded Dr. Manmohan Kohli the “National Order of Merit” in the grade of ‘Comendador’ of the Republic of Paraguay. This distinguished honour, the highest civilian and military accolade granted by the Republic of Paraguay, is a tribute to individuals who have gone above and beyond to uplift the nation. The ceremony took place earlier this month, celebrating Dr. Kohli’s unwavering commitment and extraordinary work.
Dr Kohli, originally from Solan, has established himself as a pivotal figure in Paraguay through his extensive work and dedication. Over the past three decades, he has played a pivotal role in creating and advancing over 20 distinctive national wheat varieties. This substantial achievement reflects his deep-rooted passion and expertise in wheat research.
Born in undivided India, Dr. Manmohan Kohli’s journey has been one of resilience and dedication. After India’s independence, his family and countless others migrated to the Indian side of the border. Settling in Solan, a picturesque town in the hilly region of Punjab (now part of Himachal Pradesh), Dr Kohli’s formative years were spent in this serene landscape. His academic pursuits led him to Udaipur, Rajasthan, where he pursued his undergraduate degree in Agriculture. Furthering his education, he embarked on a post-graduate journey at the prestigious Indian Agricultural Research Institute in New Delhi.
