19th Lady Honoria Lawrence Invitational Inter-School Basketball Tournament Concludes

Sanawar: The Lawrence School, Sanawar, concluded its prestigious three-day-long event, The 19th  Lady Honoria Lawrence Invitational Inter-School Basketball Tournament, 2024, on 29th April. The tournament, dedicated to fostering camaraderie and sportsmanship among young female athletes, showcased exceptional talent from seven renowned schools across the nation.

The tournament, held from 27th to 29th April, witnessed intense matches as teams battled for the coveted trophy. Host school, The Lawrence School, Sanawar, along with Daly College, Indore, Pinegrove School, Dharampur, Vidya Devi Jindal School, Hisar, Welham Girls School, Dehradun, and Yadvindra Public School, Mohali, displayed exemplary skills and competitive spirit throughout the event.

In the thrilling opening match on 27th April, Sanawar emerged victorious against Vidya Devi Jindal School, with Gayatri Sud of Sanawar being declared the Best Player of the match. The tournament progressed with electrifying semi-final matches, where Yadvindra Public School, Mohali, triumphed over Pinegrove School, Dharampur, and Welham Girls School, Dehradun, secured a place in the final by defeating Daly College, Indore.

The much-anticipated final match between YPS Mohali and Welham Girls School, Dehradun, saw an outstanding display of skill and determination. Ultimately, YPS Mohali emerged as the champions, defeating Welham Girls School with a remarkable score of 57-26. Nanki of YPS was awarded the title of Best Player of the Final Match, while Saira Kaur Mann of Welham Girls School claimed the title of Highest Scorer of the Tournament. Samaira Singh of YPS, Mohali, was honoured as the Best Player of the Tournament for her exceptional performance.

The tournament also recognized young talent, with Manvi Parashar of Pinegrove School being hailed as the Most Promising Player of the Tournament, showcasing immense potential at just grade 9 level.

The concluding ceremony of the tournament was graced by Manmohan Sharma, Deputy Commissioner of Solan district, who commended the exemplary sportsmanship displayed by the participants. Addressing the school and participating teams, he said, “I believe today on the basketball court, in fact the game of basketball has won. I congratulate the contesting teams for such wonder display of sporting spirit. “

Himmat Singh Dhillon, the Headmaster of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, extended his gratitude to all participants, emphasizing the importance of sports in shaping character and personality.
