Solan: The Department of Environment Science and Forest Products, College of Forestry, Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry undertook a plantation drive on the university farms. The faculty, staff and students of both the departments carried out plantation of important medicinal and aromatic plants. During the plantation drive, 260 plants of sandalwood, Parijat, Kafal, Moringa and lemongrass were planted.
This year the University’s month-long Van Mahotsav drive began on July 6. Various departments, including Regional Research stations and Krishi Vigyan Kendras have already organized plantation drives, resulting in the planting of around 4,000 plants. The focus has been on planting native tree species, ornamental and medicinal plants and fruit trees on vacant farm land. Additionally, parthenium eradication drives have been conducted to remove the weed from university farms. The campaign will conclude on August 4, marking the birth anniversary of Dr. Yashwant Singh Parmar.
