Shimla: APG Shimla University organized a warm orientation and welcome ceremony on Thursday to kickstart the new academic year. The event was held in the university auditorium and marked the official beginning for students across all faculties.
The ceremony featured IAS officer Abhishek Verma, Additional Deputy Commissioner (ADC) of Shimla, as the Chief Guest. He began the program by lighting a ceremonial lamp and offering prayers to Goddess Saraswati. Upon his arrival, Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Rajendra Singh Chauhan and Registrar Prof. Dr. R.L. Sharma greeted him with a Himachali cap, shawl, and a memento.
While addressing the students, ADC Verma praised the natural beauty of Himachal Pradesh. He said that APG Shimla University, surrounded by greenery and equipped with modern facilities, is a perfect place for learning. He added that education begins at home with parents and our surroundings. Life teaches us both good and bad lessons, but we must focus on learning from the good.
Verma also stressed the value of strong character, discipline, and public service. He said that these are the true goals of education, not just academic success.
During the Q&A session, students eagerly interacted with ADC Verma. They asked questions about the UPSC civil services exams. In response, Verma shared useful tips and strategies for success. He encouraged students to dream big and maintain discipline to achieve their goals. To conclude the event, Registrar Prof. Dr. R.L. Sharma gave a heartfelt vote of thanks. He welcomed the new students and assured them of full support throughout their academic journey. He also expressed gratitude to ADC Verma for motivating the students.

These included Prof. Dr. Anand Mohan Sharma (Dean), Dr. Neelam Sharma (Dean of Student Welfare), Dr. Ashwani Sharma (Journalism), Afzal Khan (Controller of Examinations), Prof. Ankit Thakur (Engineering), Dr. Maninder Kaur (Science), Dr. Monika Verma, Dr. Bhavana Verma, Dr. Devika Rana, Dr. Vijayashree, and Dr. Narendra Kumar, among others. The orientation program successfully welcomed students into a supportive and inspiring academic environment.
