BSI Solan Celebrates World Environment Day with Students at Nauni

Solan: The Botanical Survey of India (BSI), High Altitude Western Himalayan Regional Centre (HAWHRC), Solan, marked World Environment Day on June 5, 2025. The event was held in partnership with Government Senior Secondary School, Shamror, Nauni. This year’s global theme was “Beat Plastic Pollution.” The celebration aimed to spread awareness about reducing plastic use and protecting nature.

To begin the event, an environmental awareness rally was organized at Nauni. It was led jointly by BSI Solan and the partner school. Over 180 students, teachers, scientists, and BSI staff members took part. Participants marched with strong slogans like “Plastic Hatao, Paryavaran Bachao” and “Harit Bharat, Swachh Bharat.” The energy of the rally reflected the community’s concern for nature and climate issues.

Later, the celebration continued with student competitions. These included eco-friendly card making and slogan writing. A total of 15 students from various school houses showcased their creativity and awareness. Winners received prizes and certificates in a small ceremony. It inspired students to think and act responsibly toward nature.

Present during the program were Dr. Kumar Ambrish and Dr. Kuldip S. Dogra from HAWHRC, Solan. From the school, Principal Mrs. Punam Kalta and Science teacher Mrs. Deepika joined the event. Support for the event was provided by Brajesh Meena, Botanical Assistant, and Sanjeev Kumar, DCM. Their help ensured smooth coordination throughout the program. This World Environment Day celebration served as a reminder that even small steps can lead to big changes for a cleaner planet.
