Solan: Colonel (Dr.) Sanjay Shandil and his wife, Mrs. Poonam Shandil, recently visited the ICAR-Directorate of Mushroom Research in Chambaghat, Solan. They were greeted warmly by the Director, Dr. V.P. Sharma, and other senior officials.

During their tour, the Shandils were impressed by the diverse varieties of mushrooms being cultivated and researched, including button, oyster, and various medicinal mushrooms. They also learned about the significant nutritional and economic benefits of mushroom farming.
Recognizing the potential for mushroom cultivation to foster self-reliance and employment, Colonel Shandil urged the institute to focus on providing training to the region’s unemployed and impoverished youth. He highlighted that these skill development programs could boost farmers’ incomes and create new entrepreneurial opportunities across Himachal Pradesh.
In response, the institute’s officials assured the Shandils that they would provide the necessary training and guidance to local youth, helping them turn mushroom cultivation into a profitable business.
Colonel Shandil and his wife lauded the directorate’s commitment to sustainable agriculture. They expressed confidence that these initiatives would play a crucial role in improving the socio-economic conditions of farmers and unemployed youth throughout the state.
