DG NCC Lt. Gen. Gurbirpal Singh in Shimla: Strengthening Cadet Training Programs

Shimla: Lieutenant General Gurbirpal Singh, PVSM, AVSM, VSM, the 34th Director General of the National Cadet Corps (NCC), paid an official visit to the NCC Group Headquarters in Shimla on October 16, 2024. The visit highlighted the NCC’s ongoing mission to promote leadership and national service among India’s youth.

During his visit, Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh received briefings on training matters and engaged in discussions about the expansion and enhancement of NCC activities in the region. He assured full support to NCC Group Headquarters Shimla in the training and development of state cadets, emphasizing the importance of shaping the next generation of leaders.

In a significant meeting with the Honorable Governor of Himachal Pradesh, Shiv Pratap Shukla, Lt Gen Singh discussed key initiatives undertaken by the NCC. The Governor praised the NCC’s efforts in instilling patriotism and civic responsibility in the youth. Both leaders discussed the integration of NCC as an elective subject in colleges, which aims to increase youth engagement in nation-building activities.

Lt Gen Gurbirpal Singh also met with Lt Gen Devendra Sharma, AVSM, SM, General Officer Commanding-in-Chief of the Army Training Command (ARTRAC). Their discussions centered around strengthening collaboration between the NCC and the Indian Army, with a focus on enhancing training programs. The possibility of attaching NCC cadets to premier military training institutions, such as the Indian Military Academy (IMA), was also explored.

A highlight of the visit was Lt Gen Singh’s interaction with the NCC cadets. Addressing the enthusiastic group, he spoke passionately about the core values of discipline, integrity, and resilience that the NCC fosters in its members. He encouraged the cadets to step into leadership roles and act as ambassadors of positive change within their communities. His inspiring message left a lasting impact, renewing the cadets’ sense of purpose and commitment.
