Shimla: Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu has instructed Himachal Pradesh’s housing authority, HIMUDA, to explore the development of new townships close to Chandigarh to meet the state’s growing housing demand.

The directive came during a high-level meeting to review both ongoing and proposed projects. The Chief Minister also focused on the planned Jathiya Devi satellite township near Shimla, directing officials to appoint a consultant at the earliest to expedite the project. He stressed that the Jathiya Devi town will play a vital role in decongesting the state capital and offering residents better amenities.
Officials informed the Chief Minister that a blueprint for the satellite town has already been prepared by TATA Engineering Services.
During the review, Mr. Sukhu also assured the release of Rs. 20 crore for the upcoming commercial complex in Vikasnagar, Shimla, to speed up its construction. He said the proposed building will be a modern facility, housing government offices, a shopping complex, and other services.
He also reviewed various other upcoming housing projects, instructing officials to ensure they are completed in a time-bound manner across the state.
The meeting was attended by Town and Country Planning Minister Rajesh Dharmani, HIMUDA Vice Chairman Yashwant Chhajta, and other senior state officials.
