London: In a historic first, Himachal Pradesh Chief Minister Thakur Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu addressed the House of Lords in London, becoming the first Chief Minister from India to do so. Speaking at a summit hosted by the Indo-European Business Forum on Tuesday evening, he invited global investors to explore opportunities in the state’s clean energy, responsible tourism, horticulture, and IT sectors.
Sukhu highlighted Himachal’s 100 percent literacy rate and its reputation for trust and resilience, making it an attractive destination for investment. He explained that beyond being a year-round tourist spot, the state is emerging as a hub for global business.

The Chief Minister shared his vision of building a self-reliant state through systemic reforms, a concept he termed “Vyavastha Parivartan se Aatmanirbhar Himachal.” He described this not as a mere slogan, but as a guiding principle for every initiative his government undertakes.
“The State Government has introduced forward-looking policies that are driving Himachal Pradesh towards clean and green energy, responsible tourism, and information technology,” Sukhu stated. He pointed out that the state has already taken a lead in hydropower and renewable energy, areas where he believes European expertise and Indian aspirations can create powerful collaborations.
Drawing attention to the state’s agricultural strengths, Sukhu noted that Himachal apples have earned global recognition. He added that the focus is now expanding to organic vegetables, floriculture, and other high-value crops ready for international markets. He also invited investors to explore opportunities in wellness and sustainable lifestyle products.
Sukhu extended a direct invitation to European entrepreneurs and innovators to visit Himachal Pradesh, assuring them they would find not only business opportunities but also partnerships founded on stability and shared values.
During the event, the Chief Minister was conferred with the Leadership and Governance Award for his transformative governance. The summit was attended by several notable figures, including IEBF Founder Vijay Goel, Lord David Evans, UK Minister Seema Malhotra, and His Excellency Samuel Mahama from Ghana.
