Nadaun residents caught with 41.50g Chitta in Himachal

Shimla: In a significant operation, the Gagret police of Himachal Pradesh have successfully apprehended two individuals involved in drug peddling. The suspects were caught red-handed while transporting a substantial consignment of chitta, a potent heroin, from Hoshiarpur in the neighbouring state of Punjab. The seizure included approximately 41.50 grams of the illegal substance. Both the arrested individuals are residents of Nadaun, a locality within the home constituency of Chief Minister Himachal Sukhwinder Singh Sukhu.

One of the suspects, identified as Sanjay Kumar alias Sanju, is known to be the son of Late. Suresh Kumar, while the other individual is recognized as Rakesh Kumar alias Shamu, the son of Kuldeep Chand Sharma. Sanjay Kumar works as a photographer, while Rakesh Kumar is currently unemployed. The arrests were carried out under the provisions of the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act (NDPC Act).

The successful operation unfolded after the Gagret police in Una district received confidential information regarding transporting a significant chitta consignment into Himachal Pradesh from Hoshiarpur. Acting swiftly on intelligence, the Gagret police intensified surveillance along the Hoshiarpur-Gagret road. The operation culminated in the interception of a scooty with registration number HP55-C-0287, which was heading towards Hoshiarpur. The vehicle was halted for a thorough inspection based on suspicious activities.

Upon searching the scooty, law enforcement officials discovered a packet containing the illicit substance. Following their arrest, the suspects confessed that this was their inaugural attempt at transporting a chitta consignment. The individuals from Nadaun had journeyed to Hoshiarpur to procure the contraband, while the ultimate recipient had an established direct association with a drug dealer in Hoshiarpur.

This case marks a significant breakthrough for the Gagret police, representing the first instance of intercepting such a sizable chitta consignment. Authorities are planning targeted raids in Nadaun and Hoshiarpur to dismantle the broader drug network, including capturing the primary supplier behind the drug racket in Hoshiarpur.

Commenting on the operation, DSP Dr Vasudha Sood confirmed that both suspects have been taken into custody and charged under the NDPC Act. As the investigation unfolds, authorities are optimistic about uncovering further details about the extent of the drug network and its connections. The arrests send a strong message that law enforcement agencies are committed to eradicating drug-related activities and maintaining the safety and well-being of the citizens of Himachal Pradesh.
