Solan: A 21-member delegation from Nepal, including officers from the Horticulture and Agriculture Department, participated in a two-day training and exposure visit to Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry in Nauni. This training was sponsored by the JaiKisan Institute of Rural Management Technology and organized by the Directorate of Extension Education of the university.
During the training, university scientists provided practical demonstrations and classroom lectures on various topics related to temperate and subtropical horticulture to the participants. Dr. Anil Sood, Joint Director Communications, welcomed the delegation on behalf of the university and gave an overview of the university, including the extension activities carried out by the Directorate.
The delegation visited several key sites, including the Natural Farming block, food science and technology department, and the high-density apple and kiwi blocks, to understand the technologies being adopted and researched at the university. The participants also visited the apple budwood bank at Krishi Vigyan Kendra Solan at Kandaghat and the University’s Regional Horticulture Research and Training Station at Mashobra. The team learned about the natural farming model established at the station, as well as various training and pruning methods of different fruit crops.
