Geneva: Press Emblem Campaign (PEC), the global media safety and rights body, expresses shock over the killing of another Pakistani journalist in Sindh province and demands justice along with adequate compensation to the bereaved family. According to local media outlets, Tufail Rind (40) was shot dead by armed assailants in Mirpur Mathelo locality on 8 October as he was on his way to drop his children to school.
Tufail, who worked for a local Sindhi newspaper, died on the spot. The victim, who was the secretary of Mathelo Press Club, left behind his wife and four children. A few days back, another journalist named Imtiaz Mir succumbed to injuries from a shooting incident at Malir area of the same province of Pakistan. Prior to them, three media workers namely Syed Mohammed Shah, Abdul Latif and AD Shar were killed in the south Asian country since 1 January this year.
“Tufail Rind is the 141st journalist to be killed till date this year across the world. The Pak authorities should nab the culprits urgently and punish them under the law. We urge Sindh province chief minister Syed Murad Ali Shah to take a personal interest to book the assailants,” said Blaise Lempen, president of PEC (www.pressemblem.ch), adding that the PEC stands with the Pakistani journalists in their mission for justice to the media victims.
