The Boys Soccer Team of The Lawrence School, Sanawar, is on a winning spree as they clinched a hat trick winning three matches consecutively in The Bishop George Edward Lynch Cotton Memorial All India Inter-school Soccer Tournament organised by the Bishop Cotton School, Shimla. Eight school teams participating in this tournament are The Lawrence School, Sanawar, St. Edwards-Shimla, Durga Public School-Solan, Aemy Public School-Dagshai, Pinegrove School-Dharampur, Sacred Souls School-Mohali and Team-A and Team -B of Bishop Cotton School, Shimla.
Playing their first match against the B-team of the host school, Sanawar boys registered a convincing win beating their opponent 5-0. Membh Camdir Mai of Sanawar was declared “Player of the Match” for scoring 2 goals. In the second match against St. Edwards School, Shimla, the high-spirited Sanawar team, trounced Edward’s team 4-0 in the game amid heavy rains. While Ranraj scored the first goal, Aarnav Thapa claimed the following two goals, with Kunal Rai scoring the 4th and the final goal of the match. The Sanawarian victory juggernaut continued to roll with full gusto even in the third and the last league match defeating Army Public School, Dagshai 4-1, undeterred by the slushy ground conditions due to heavy rains. Vasuman Chauhan from Sanawar scored the first goal of the match in the 7th minute, and the second and third goals were scored by Aarnav Thapa and Jaimukand Bhan, respectively, in the 9th and 15th minutes. As Ranav Singh scored the fourth goal in the 41st minute, Sanawar Boys Soccer Team entered the semifinal stage of the coveted tournament ranking at the top of its league with 9 points and 12 goals.
In its semifinal tournament match tomorrow morning, Sanawar will be locking horns with either the BCS-A team or Durga Public School Solan team to play the final match. Jubilant at the match outcome, Vasuman Chauhan- ‘Player of the match’ of the last match, said, “I am happy that my game is improving and we played well as a team. We are conscious that there is no room for complacency as we play our knock-out stage matches from here on.”
Mr M. K. Gulia, the soccer coach escorting the team and Head of Sports at Sanawar, said, “The organisation of this tournament has been commendable and it’s heartening to see that the soul of the game is alive and kicking despite the adverse weather conditions and climate challenges. I am happy to see my boys perform well here. The tournament has offered good learning ground for the boys.”
