Shimla Film Festival’s ‘BACHPAN’ to Introduce Kids to Global Cinema

Shimla: As the 11th International Film Festival of Shimla (IFFS) gears up for its opening this weekend, it has unveiled a unique and exciting new initiative: ‘BACHPAN’, an exclusive film segment curated especially for children.

From September 5 to 7, the historic Gaiety Theatre will host this special program, offering young audiences a gateway to the world of global cinema. Running parallel to the main festival, ‘BACHPAN’ will feature a vibrant collection of short films, animations, documentaries, and feature films from various cultures. The goal, according to organizers, is to move beyond mere entertainment and foster creativity, cultural understanding, and an early appreciation for the art of filmmaking.

In an effort to make the experience more engaging, the program will also include interactive sessions with filmmakers. These sessions will provide a rare opportunity for children to ask questions and get a behind-the-scenes glimpse into the magic of cinema.

“Our goal is to create a platform where young minds can explore the world of cinema and be inspired to tell their own stories,” said Pushp Raj Thakur, Festival Director.

This new initiative is part of the larger 11th IFFS, which will showcase 163 films from 43 countries. The festival is organized by Himalayan Velocity in collaboration with the Ministry of Information & Broadcasting and the Himachal Pradesh Department of Language & Culture.
