Shoolini University’s event marks world suicide prevention day

Solan: On the occasion of World Suicide Prevention Day, the Centre of Psychology and Behavioural Sciences, in collaboration with Club Arcadia, Shoolini Creative Studio, Team Dean Student Welfare (DSW) and National Service Scheme (NSS), organised various activities to spread awareness about suicide prevention.

The event featured an Interdepartmental slogan writing competition, a suicide prevention awareness walk, and a heart-touching Nukkad Natak. Faculty members of Shoolini University who attended the event was Dr. Ashoo Khosla, Dr. Nand Lal Gupta, Dr. Shalini Singh, Miss. Sangeeta Kakkar, Miss. Akanksha Negi and Dr. Anita Chauhan.

The day commenced with the Interdepartmental slogan writing competition, where students from various departments came together to express their thoughts and ideas about suicide prevention through powerful slogans. The competition not only encouraged creativity but also fostered dialogue on a topic that is often surrounded by silence. The winners of the slogan competition were Mr. Ashutosh Rana, Miss Anupama Jha  and Miss Riya Singh stood first, second and third respectively.

Following the slogan competition, a symbolic suicide prevention awareness walk was also organised at the university campus. Participants, wore ribbons and hold banners with messages of hope and support, walked through the campus, distributed leaflets, demonstrated their commitment to raising awareness about suicide prevention.

The highlight of the event was a thought-provoking Nukkad Natak (street play) performed by the students of Shoolini Creative Studio. The play delved into the emotional struggles that individuals facing suicidal thoughts might encounter and emphasised the significance of seeking help.

Dr Anita Chauhan, Associate Professor, School of Psychology and Behavioural Sciences, said, “This event serves as a reminder that we all have a role to play in suicide prevention. Together, we can create a world where people feel heard, understood, and supported.”

Aatish Gaurav and Rhea, students of Psychology department, expressed, “Today’s event was not just about raising awareness but also spreading a message of hope. It’s reassuring to know that our community cares.”
