Solan: SJVN Chairman and Managing Director Bhupender Gupta held high-level talks in Kathmandu today to accelerate the company’s hydropower projects in Nepal.
During his visit, Gupta met with Finance Minister Dr. Swarnim Wagle, Energy Minister Biraj Bhakta Shrestha, and Investment Board Nepal CEO Yanki Ukyab. He was joined by a delegation of senior SJVN executives, including Director of Finance Parthajit De, Director of Projects Rajesh Kumar Chandel, and SAPDC and SLPDC CEO Pankaj Chaudhary.

The meetings focused on clearing immediate hurdles for three key infrastructure developments: the 900 MW Arun-3 project, its associated 217-kilometer transmission line, and the 669 MW Lower Arun facility. Officials discussed strategies to resolve land disputes and forest clearance delays that are currently slowing down the transmission line construction. They also reviewed the necessary approvals needed to kickstart pre-construction work on the Lower Arun site.
Both the Nepal government and SJVN management agreed that closer coordination among local authorities is essential to keep these strategic projects on schedule. Through its regional subsidiaries, SJVN continues to drive energy cooperation between India and Nepal, aiming to strengthen sustainable power generation and boost the local economy.
