Solan: Five students from Dr. Y.S. Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry, Nauni, have recently excelled in the National Eligibility Test (NET) conducted by various agencies. Among these achievers, one student hails from the Department of Forest Products, while the others represent the Department of Environmental Science.
Nivedita Kapoor, a graduate of MSc Environmental Science, successfully cleared the UGC-NET Junior Research Fellowship (JRF) with a score of 204, securing a 99.94 percentile and an All India Rank of 12 out of 18,548 candidates. Nivedita’s master’s research focused on the ‘Assessment of Climate Change Mitigation Potential of Major Horticulture Crops in Solan District, Himachal Pradesh’, under the mentorship of Dr. SK Bhardwaj, Professor and Head of the Department.

Similarly, Arvind Rana, a doctoral student from the Department of Forest Products, cleared the CSIR JRF in Life Sciences with an All India Rank of 8. Arvind, who completed his MSc in Medicinal and Aromatic Plants at the university, is currently pursuing his PhD at Nauni under the guidance of Dr. Yashpal Sharma, Head of the Department.
Additionally, three other MSc students from the Department of Environmental Science—Jalaj Pandit, Tanvi and Aanchal also successfully cleared the UGC-NET in their subjects.
The students expressed their gratitude to their guides and faculty for their unwavering support and guidance throughout their academic journeys. Vice Chancellor Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel extended his heartfelt congratulations to the students and their mentors for their outstanding achievements, which have brought immense pride to the university. Dr. C.L. Thakur, Dean of the College of Forestry, along with the faculty members of the departments, also extended their congratulations to the successful students.
