UHF Nauni Signs MoU with Romanian University to Strengthen Global Research Collaboration

Solan: Dr. YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni has signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) with the University of Agronomic Sciences and Veterinary Medicine of Bucharest (USAMV), Romania, marking a significant step toward enhancing international academic and research cooperation.

The MoU was signed by Prof. Rajeshwar Singh Chandel, Vice Chancellor of UHF Nauni, and Prof. Stănică Florin, Vice Rector of USAMV, along with Prof. Dr. Asănică Adrian Constantin. The signing ceremony was held in the presence of Dr. Thibaut Mallausa, Project Manager of the Global ACROPICS initiative and Dr. Inder Dev, Director of Extension Education at UHF.

The partnership underscores USAMV’s interest in UHF’s work in temperate and subtropical fruit crops. Under the MoU, both universities will collaborate on academic and research exchange. USAMV is actively engaged in research on a variety of fruit crops including kiwi, grapes, pears, apricots, figs, avocados, blueberries, and cherries—areas that align closely with UHF’s strengths and focus.

The signing took place on the sidelines of the European Research Alliance Event, organized in collaboration with the International Agroecological Crop Protection Initiative (ACPI), the EU-funded ACROPICS project, and the European Cooperation in Science and Technology (COST). UHF Nauni is a partner institution in the ACROPICS project, which aims to promote systemic innovations in agroecological crop protection to significantly reduce chemical pesticide use.

Established in 1852, USAMV is Romania’s oldest and largest institution for agronomic education. It comprises seven faculties—ranging from Agriculture and Horticulture to Veterinary Medicine and Biotechnologies—and serves over 12,000 students through its comprehensive academic programmes and state-of-the-art multidisciplinary research laboratories.

This is not the first international engagement for UHF Nauni in Romania. The university had earlier signed an MoU with the Horting Institute of Research – Development for Processing and Marketing of Horticultural Products, Bucharest.
