Solan: A grand farewell function was organized at 1 HP Girls Battalion NCC Solan to honor Col Sanjay Shandil, who retired as the Commanding Officer. The event was attended by Hon’ble Chief Minister Sh. Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Hon’ble Health Minister Dr. Col. Dhani Ram Shandil, who lauded his contributions to the Armed Forces and NCC.
The farewell ceremony began with a Sainik Sammelan, where Col Shandil addressed his staff and officers, reflecting on his tenure and expressing gratitude for the support he received. He spoke about his commitment to the training and motivation of cadets and the administrative improvements made during his tenure.
As a mark of appreciation, Col Shandil honored Associate NCC Officers (ANOs) and Caretaker Officers (CTOs) with jackets, recognizing their relentless dedication to cadet training. He also presented caps to cadets as a token of encouragement for their continued efforts.
In a touching gesture, the new Commanding Officer, Col Vivek Bhatara, along with the staff, presented a memento to Col Shandil as a tribute to his leadership. This was followed by a traditional gypsy pull-off, where all staff members symbolically pulled Col Shandil’s open-air gypsy, a time-honored tradition in the Armed Forces symbolizing respect and camaraderie.
After the official proceedings, Col Shandil visited Maa Shoolini Temple to seek blessings for the future, marking the significance of the occasion. The farewell function concluded with a special lunch at Santa Roza, attended by Hon’ble Chief Minister Sh. Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu and Hon’ble Health Minister Dr. Col. Dhani Ram Shandil, who extended their heartfelt best wishes for his post-retirement journey.
